Possibly the oldest plum in existence, this variety is thought to have been brought to Hungary by returning Crusaders. During the 16th century it was introduced to Prussia (Germany) and from there eventually to America around 1850. It is still one of the most popular prune-type plums and grown widely all over the world. The medium-sized purple-black fruit has firm yellow flesh with a pleasant, mild sweet flavour. In fact, it is also known as the 'Sugar Prune'. Excellent for drying, desert or canning. Shows some black knot resistance.
